The history of this title fight
First of all, I prefer the term Nonverbal Communication (NVC) that is wider than body language.
UFC 191, this Saturday, will have as main event the fight that puts in game the world title of the fly weights. It will be a rematch between Demetrius Johnson "DJ" (left) and John Dodson.
They have fought a real battle, with many exchanging levels in 5 rounds of great action. The decision went to the judges that gave the victory to DJ Champion.
Analysis of nonverbal communication (NVC)
Demetrius Johnson
The facial expression is most of the time AU0 = neutral or with a slight smile, as discreet as the Mona Lisa.
This indicates relaxation, be happy (is a type of light happiness), optimism, good humor, feeling blessed.
He bows his head as he enters the "atack distance" (Edward T. Hall - Proxemics) of his boss Dana White. That means a lot.
Not ever that a person looks e turns head down means sadness.
Not ever that a person looks e turns head down means sadness.
The person may be entering in contact with his kinestesic sensations, "looking inward" meditation or just showing respect or submission. Dana is the boss, after all.
During staredown you may notice by the hands light waving and the shirt expansion and contration that the breath of the flyweight champion Demetrius Johnson is uniform, that indicates, calm, serenity.
NVC Analysis of John Dodson
While in John Dodson, it is possible to see several gestures of anger.
- Jaw contracted sometimes
- Closed fists as hard
- Kept seen any longer
- Look eye corner to turn
Looks he feels as he says... He believes that DJ has something that is his.
He do not acepted the decision of the judges. He feels that he won the first fight and goes for revenge.
Dana White´s NVC
Head down - When Demetrius Johnson lowered his head as he entered Dana striking distance, he lows his head.
Dana, do not do the same instantly, but after a brief second, enters in rapport corresponding in the same gesture, bowing his amazing factory of great comments head too.
That demonstrate mutual respect, humility and that none has absolutely anger or intent to attack him.
Dana, after more than a second expose to the DJs bow, in a pure reflection of Isopraxis (=rapport = mirror neurons) also bows his head.
During the staredown Dana avoid influence or constrain none.
Look at the same amount of time when looking them, the same facial expression.
It is the best way to let the two focus only on themselves.
Dana always seeks to be as neutral as possible. This is a trait that I realized over the years that I see in White´s NVC.
