Dana White's Nonverbal Comunication (NVC) in: Ex UFC Champion Jon Jones Plea Hearing. Is Dana smiling?

When we feel tense, we tend to contract some muscular groups. One in especial is the "trapezius" musculature.

Is a inconscient form to protect the neck, one of the most vulnerable parts of the human body.

Posturics
inclination foward = very interest in what is seeing and hearing.

Bow posture - when we ara in convex posture is harder to breath, energy don't flow well. It's part of sad nonverbals.

Gesturics
Shoulders high = very tense (i never saw Dana as tense)

Facial expression
AU1 inner eybrows raiser (part of sad facial expression) + AU41 relaxed upper lids (part of sad facial expression) + AU17 chin levator = frustration, tension

Interpretation: Is Dana Smiling?
We can resume Danas NVC states in 3 words: Tension (AU17, AU1), sadness (AU4) e interest (gaze, AU2, inclination forward).

It is easy to see how tense Dana is feeling in the moment. Even if we see Dana's lips corner up that is reflex of a happy personality.

In most part of the time this guy is enjoying the life, having fun, writing and saying funny stuff. The constant smiling shapes the facial musculature and we tent to show subtle facial expression we use most even in relaxed state.

So, he was no smiling, and any happy at the beginning. But after the best result Jones could expect, i think Dana had a good reason to smile.
